They have good constitutions and are very strong. They tend to have terrible luck, but start out with more gold than any other race. And their skills as fighters keep their sacks full. ===== Stat Caps ===== Mountain Dwellers can roll **19 Strength** at character creation — one of only two races that can exceed 18 STR (the other being Outcast). Since stat pots only raise Strength to 18, a Mountain Dweller with 19 STR has a permanent advantage in weapon damage and carry weight. The trade-off is a **Charisma cap of 17**, which means permanently higher training costs and Hit Doc prices compared to races that can reach 18 CHA. ^ Stat ^ Cap ^ Notes ^ | STR | **19** | Exceeds stat pot cap of 18; permanent advantage | | CHA | **17** | One below standard; affects training/Hit Doc costs | | All others | 18 | Standard caps | ===== Racial Traits ===== * **Extra Starting Gold:** Mountain Dwellers begin the game with more gold pieces than any other race. This provides an early-game advantage for purchasing initial equipment and training. ===== Character Creation Tips ===== * The 19 STR cap is most valuable for melee classes where every point of weapon damage matters. * Reroll until you get 18 Luck and 17 Charisma (the cap). Don't waste rolls hoping for 18 CHA — 17 is the maximum. * The extra starting gold helps offset the higher training costs from lower Charisma. * Mountain Dwellers' naturally high Constitution makes them durable from level 1. ===== Recommended Classes ===== ^ Class ^ Why ^ | Barbarian | 19 STR directly boosts HP per level (STR determines Barbarian HP gains) and weapon damage | | Paladin | 19 STR means maximum weapon damage; strong CON tendency for HP | | Fighter | Pure melee benefits most from the 19 STR cap | | Martial Artist | Strength and Constitution tendencies support the melee/dodge playstyle | ===== See Also ===== * All Races — stat cap comparison table * Classes — all playable classes * Character Stats — how stats affect gameplay * Fating — can randomly change your race > Sources: ROAR, Tantheus, Telletran
