Welcome to the world of Drakkar!

  I assume you already have made your first crit. When you enter Drakkar for the first time,
  you appear in Nork school. Please read these floor piles. Take these doors and read these
  golden floor piles. Dont go anywhere until you finish the tutorial in the school.

Well, you start out just with

  simple armor and crude weapon. In order to survive, you have to find better gear and
  weapon and dedicate to preferred class.

Let's dedicate first… Go

  outside of the marketplace. Here in Nork town are the following trainers (classes):
  fighter, who is just west of you, martial artist (MA) just south of portal room, which is
  east of marketplace (where are you at, remember?), mentalist next to MA and healer north
  of mentalist's. There is hidden thief trainer; go into the Steel Flower pub (that building
  northeast of marketplace, where many people hang out at). Then go through the corridor
  until the end; well, that wall actually is secret door. Walk through and there is hidden
  norken thief guild.

FIGHTER

Barb trainer is in isolated hut

  far east of Nork, east of prisons; if you really want to dedicate to him, take someone
  bigger with you to escort you. Prisons are deadly to small crits.

Paladin trainer is on island

  southeast of yeti island, which is just south of Nork. You cannot dedicate to Paladin
  until you are level 8 fighter with good/good aligment.

Fighter/mentalist trainer is

  hidden by hally giant and levi lair VERY far away from Nork, so that option is out for
  you. Also, its the hardest class to build.

I would suggest dedicating to

  fighter, since it is the easiest class to start with. It is good to get used with Drakkar.

Ok, click on your preferred

  trainer standing on his hex then click "Dedicate". Congratulations, you have
  just dedicated to your trainer, thus becoming the class you chose!

Now, we need a weapon and

  armor... Eh, with what you have, you can survive only on n-1, "Last Chance",
  your the first dungeon ever. See that big building northwest of marketplace? Enter it...
  at the end are stairs. Go downstairs.

Aaaaaaa…! Was that scary? Eh?

  Ok, look around... there is PLENTY stuff on floor. Look on each pile and get weapon you
  prefer. And better armor (leather<studded<chain). You can wear woolen cloak on top
  of armor. Actually two cloaks.

Now to weapons… Choose which

  weapon will you use. Then stick with that weapon. Ya know, each use you use weapon (i.e.
  attack), you get skill. Skilling is using certain weapon/psi alot. If you use longsword
  for example, you skill in LONGSWORD skill. Using it a lot increases your skill. Now you
  start with 1 LS skill (click Show/Skills on dropdown menu on top-left section of window...
  move your mouse to that area until it shows). It says Novice or something like that...
  click on that word... it shows how high your skill is... currently one (1).

Now to kick butt! Move forward

  until you see the first monster. It is red to you (i.e. has red box) and will attack you.
  Click attack button (if ya havent done so) and press onto baddie's box. Keep pressing onto
  it until you slay baddie...

Watch its health (red heart) and

  your health above. Baddie's health should be dropping. If it drops to zero, you win. If
  yours drops to zero or below too (click on the bar for numbers), you lose. If you get
  wounded, you can always run and get revenge later ;o)

Ok, that is about combat. If you

  are mentalist, choose ENMISS button and click on baddie's box. It uses up 5 energy points
  each time, however you regen ep over time (as health points - hp).

I take it you won. Congrats :o)

  Now search it. That blue  bag button... Ok. Loot it. Get gold and gems... Get helm
  and boots if any, too.  Go to stairs and take 'em... then go to counter, click on
  shopkeeper's name and shop window opens. Sell your gems by dragging your gems and items
  into shop (if you have open sack... open it by clicking the sack button). One of shops is
  selling healing potions... we call them mend bottles. Dark blue bottle with red circle on
  its neck... Ok. There are cheaper mends... Outside that building, go west and north of
  fighter trainer is alchemist. Only 20 coins per bottle. Buy handy of them. South of
  fighter trainer is tanner; you can bring corpses of certain monsters there and tan them
  for armor or cloaks... whatever you get. Next south is the bank... You can bank your gold
  there.

Ok, go back to Last Chance (n-1)

  and keep fighting & looting, that is hunting. Then you get enough experience for the
  next level... Congratulations! Rest at full health to advance a level. You raise total hp
  (and ep, if you are mentalist or healer).

Now go to your trainer. Click

  class train to get special abilities for your class. Mentalists and healers get new
  discipline, fighting classes combat abilities (attacks). You get additional attack per
  round at certain levels... Fighters and MA each 4 levels, thieves each 5 levels,
  barbarians each 3 levels and healers each 8 levels. Guess you need to be at least 4 level
  if you are fighter for additional attack. And another at level 8. And so on. Ok, now if
  you click "Train", you pay gold for your training. This SPEEDS up your skilling
  A LOT. Otherwise you would be skilling very slow (especially at higher skill levels!).

Ok, that is it. Hunt on n-1, get

  levels and skills and loot. Once you will find stairs to n-2. You can take them if you
  feel strong enough to take on tougher crits. Then n-3. These dungeons are easy.

Be sure to hang out in SF

  sometimes... You may find your friends there (and on hunts too), party with them and hunt
  together. It is easier to team up.>

Party? Yes, you can make your

  party using command "#party create name" where you can change "name"
  with your preferred name... Or you can join another party using command "#party join
  name". In party gained experience is fairly divided between members (higher level
  members get more exp, etc.), you gain skill bonus and etc.

Ok now… it is good to have

  friends. Behave. Make friends. Be fair. You cant expect to make friend with someone whom
  you have just stolen his loot. Player thieves arent liked in this game. So dont take
  anything that belongs to someone else, unless you have permission. I think you get the
  picture. ;o)

Now to better gear… Why hang

  out at SF (Steel Flower)? Sometimes bigger players get you better gear. Many ppl like to
  help newbies. Just ask if someone can help you. Dont beg, though, beggars arent liked
  either and it may damage your reputation. And dont ask for that awesome looking weapon
  someone has if you dont know what is it. Just say, "nice sword" and ask what is
  it, what do you need to do to get it and such. Many weapons and gear in this game tie
  (i.e. glue to the owner, so only owner can wear them and no one else). If you pick
  something on and it falls onto ground saying "It wont fit you", then it is tied
  to someone else. It aint yours. Same with beginner gear... you can ask for rak (rakhasa
  cloak), kitty (sabertooth cloak) and steel shield... Not to mention large yeti, standard
  barb gear, good for other classes too (good block & cuts psi in half). These are easy
  to get. Dont ask more than once, though, since that is considered begging and annoys
  people.

Ok, you want to get better gear

  yourself. Fine. Go to stairs southwest of west bank... these lead to n-3.5, huge dungeon
  between n-3 and n-4. Be careful, for it is tough to small crits. But you can try to raid
  it... stay close to stairs and loot all gems (big uncut gems are 1k-2k coins), get
  yourself plate armor (better than chain) and such. You can sell plate armor for 600 coins
  in stores. Next, you find sanquins on n-3 and in certain area of n-3.5... kill one, take
  it to  tanner and tell tanner to tan it using command "#nam, tan" where nam
  is his name (just first 3 letters of his name will do). You get pretty good sanquin
  scales, which are better than plate and give 40 ice protection.

Ok, if you are fighter and get to

  level 8 and are good/good aligned (use "#list stats" to see aligment), you
  should consider re-dedicating to paladin trainer, mentioned above. You get another attack
  and +2 will and focus disciplines at higher skills (above 17). That is good starting
  class. Just dont kill anything non-hostile (grey boxes) or you lose pallyhood (become
  fighter again) and have to atone back to g/g to rededicate.

Now you should be familiar with

  Nork... when you get to level 10, you can use that hole southeast of east bank to get to
  n-4. You have to walk all the way back, though... thru n-4 to n-1 (these stairs you land
  near are to n-3). Or twig out.

Twig? Yes, succor twigs… Go to

  hidden thief guild (thru the wall at the end of corridor in Steel Flower), buy succor
  scroll there (50 coins, cheaper than one sold in marketplace) and hold it in right hand.
  Use "#form succor" and you get succor twig. You have set twig to the place where
  you formed it. When you are hunting somewhere in dungeon, just drop that twig and you will
  instantly be teleported back to the hex you made twig in. Experiment a bit. ;o)

Always have a twig back to Nork.

  It is lifesaver.

Ok now… On n-1 and deeper (n-2,

  n-3, n-3.5, n-4) you can sometimes find rare magical items, like green helm (+2 defence
  (reduces probability to GET hit)), golden helm (on-contact respirate - lets you swim as if
  you were walking the floor), greathelm (combat stun protection; sometimes HP helm - raises
  total HP you can have by 1-40; there are 60 hp helms too in King Mino dungeon, however
  these dont have any combat stun protection... KM? Dont worry about it until you are
  big...), green boots (30 fire protection; also called lizard boots - often found on
  lizardmen), black boots (mountaineering or combat - +2 offence (raises probability to
  hit)), grey boots (shark skin boots - on contact respirate as gold helm). Gold helm is 5k
  coins worth. If you are barb, you can break these items for experience and some skill.

Ok, now dying… When you die,

  you drop whatever you were wearing in hands... And hit the ground. There you can wait for
  someone to CC you (CritCure - healer discipline at skill 7), get your sorry arse to healer
  in town or you can just use "#restore" to restore immedially. You restore at
  alchemist and lose 1 constitution and a few hp, if you have LOW con. To avoid hp loss, go
  to SF... one shopkeepers behind the counter sells 3birds (big blue bottles with red dots),
  these are con pots which increase con by 1 up to 15. Keep your con above 10 at all
  costs... Preferably at 15 con. Also, con influences hp gain while leveling; higher con =
  more hp gain. So keep con as high as you can. You can get to 18 con with majors (major con
  pots), which increase con by 2 up to 18. These are hard to get for small crits, so forget
  about them for your 1st crit. You should be OK with 15 con. Also, there is lizard king
  quest... talk with SirHaldan that wanders Nork ;o)

Now you should be OK now. If you

  are above level 10, you may want to hunt in prisons (east of Nork across the water). Very
  good exp, coin and skill there, however you can get stunned by stunners (that is why above
  10 level), there are lurkers that dark out area, gargoyles, that can move and hit at the
  same time, and rakhasa, lion-like creatures, that cast assault on you. You tan them for
  their famous cloak, which has 30 fire protection and psi protection (protects against
  assault). There are fiends, too, which hit hard. Be careful in prisons; you can get
  STRIPPED there.

Stripped? Eh, when you die,

  monsters search you - you lose everything you had on and in sack, pouch & belt. You
  leave DP there - death pile. You can try to get it yourself or ask someone to help you.

Now here ends my newbie guide.

  After this point you should be OK to get started. If you have any more questions, you can
  browse this and other sites and learn about more dungeons, lairs, items and gear. You can
  talk to people in Steel Flower and learn new wondrous things.
