Hunting

Hunting by

Here you can learn how to hunt efficently.

For clarification, "__hunting" term includes__ //lair hunts//, //skilling//,
  //coining// and //exp// //gathering// hunts, not to mention //adventuring//
hunts (just for fun & learn). __You must know__ that all notes you find here are
from my personal experience and knowledge, so for additional information, tips and facts
you will have to find out these yourself or learn from more experienced players.

Lair hunts

  1. always gather intelligence on lair before you attempt to hunt. Especially if you

are doing it for 1st time!

  1. dont attempt to solo eaters (lair crits that eat you - lose skill, exp, hp,

stats…) unless you are well prepared and can survive at least two prones.

  1. with party, be sure you can survive at least a good prone! Otherwise you are

practically another DP your party has to recover while they have to fight pumped lair

  crit.
  1. always ih the lair (remove all IHs from it) before lair crits reaches 1/3 of the

health otherwise it will use IH to heal.

  1. you can IH lair crit (giving it an IH) on purpose in order to gain more skill.
  1. be sure to have approtiate gear for certain lair crits (like enmiss protection

for tarak, chipper & slith, NO dancers on slith hunt - ya might dance out into zoo of

minos and archers) - dont go on hunt unprepared!
  1. it is wise to set a twig as close to non-twiggable lair as possible, as if you

node out, you can twig back.

  1. if you are zerking barb on hunt and lair crit returns to lair (i.e. disappears

from your screen), DONT press anything more! If you do, you will target one of your party

(if there are no hostiles). Just wait for targeted fella to move out of your screen and
for lair crit to reappear to you; then you can re-target to it. ICQ saves lots of lives
heheheee (I love to see them scared as I tell them they have been targeted LOL :o)

Skilling

  1. always try to keep your trainer happy (fully paid, that is :o)
  1. pay larger amounts of coins to trainer rather than paying him small amounts every

time you can.

  1. killing easier and numerous crits is better skill than harder and scarce crits…

If you can 1-2 shot crits, you can kill more of them in the time you would spend to kill

  harder one!
  1. good skilling place for hally-users are where you can use 2-step (or 4-step)

tactics - “dance”. You dont get hurt by melee and thus use less ihs.

  1. same applies to long-range users (bow, crossbow, ment, healer) - avoid melee
  1. for melee (swords, hammer, dagger, axe…), put your best defense on or skill in

easier places.

  1. note on thief skilling: you can get thief skill to 12 easy, if you keep stealing

from n-1 or n-3.5 crits and keep trainer paid. Steal from crit until he doesnt have

anything then kill him. DONT steal from other players, though.
  1. note on ment/healer skilling: you can form your discipline on blue-tagged npc

(like your trainer) and keep doing so; you get skill just forming it. Good for smaller

skill levels. Keep trainer paid, too.
  1. Aleria is good skill for above 11 skill level.
  1. n-3.5 ghost is good skill up to 8 skill; ogre chief up to 12 skill.
  1. partying with thief will boost your skill (as long as thief uses his specials - backstab,

steal etc.)

Exp gathering

  1. mentalists gain exp very fast just by forming area effect disciplines (fireball,

firebreath…). Great places for them are where big zoos of easy crits are (1-2 shots with

  fireball or firebreath) like yeti+1, n-4, n-5...
  1. partying with such ment will give you a nice portion of exp he gains… ;o)
  1. healers have only 1-hex area effect disciplines, so they have to gather zoo on

themselves (or somewhere else) and WHAM! - healer's attack disciplines are stronger than

  mentalists's, though waste more ep.
  1. MA can sweep zoos; be careful not to stand on his hex.
  1. other classes cant kill more than 1 crit per round (besides pally, who can get

multistrike later)

  1. Aleria is very good for exp gathering (bowlers cave is steady income → exp

factory)

  1. just hunt, dont sit in SF too long ;o)

Coining

  1. mentalists and thieves get transmute discipline → popping everything on floor

into coins

  1. hunt places and gather all coins, gems and any other valuable items then sell

them in stores

  1. the faster you hunt, the more coins you get
  1. use of succor twigs will greatly speed your coining
  1. it is better to hunt places with easier crits; faster you kill, more coins you

get.

  1. you may choose not to pick coins; gems are main income. Grab them, ignore coins;

then come back and get coins when you are done with coining. You might be surprised how

  faster is it...
  1. searching corpses lowers trip time (a time you spend for one trip to place, hunt

and return), so let them decay over time and grab what you can find.

  1. note that if you grab too many coins, you will get encumbered. For fighting

classes this means you fight poorly. Does not affect psionic disciplines.

  1. Aleria is very good coining place

You will develop your own unique coining strategy, so

these pointers above are just basic coining tips.

Safety

  1. shield will save your life. However always have a spare shield in locker, for you

will need it to recover shield you might dp (deathpile).

  1. greathelm (like hp helm) has some combat stun protection (except KM ones). Dont

understimate it.

  1. dancers are lifesavers if you get stunned. Must be level 15 to get them, though.
  1. if you use hally (or bow, throwing, ment or healer disc), you can keep moving and

hitting crits that chase you. Kill archers, npc ments, healers and such ranged crits.

  1. whenever there is stun danger (stunners, healers, harpies), get protstun

protection (PS twigs from Maeling store or PS ammy (mummy king quest). If you have GH, you

can buy better PS twigs there)
  1. always be properly geared for place your going to (like fire prot gear for m-3,

ice gear for iceplains, raks for prisons, enmiss robe for fatepools).

  1. NEVER forget to set twig to Nork (SF) so you can always twig out of danger. Twigs

are lifesavers.

  1. if a certain place is hard for you, this does not mean you HAVE to hunt there.

Hunt in easier places rather. I hate it when I have to recover someone's DP on n-5 several

  times...
  1. before you move onto new (and harder) place, get an intelligence about it first

by asking more experienced players.

  1. hunt in party with friends for better safety. Have a healer in party to CC your

sorry butt :o) and someone with CC scroll to CC healer's sorry butt ;o)

Well, that is all you are gonna learn from me. As you hunt, you will learn and develop better strategies, that suit you and

  your crit. HH :o) //Mihey//
